Volunteers will work together to remove litter, prevent plastics from reaching waterways, and give plants and wildlife the space they need to thrive.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\ud83d\udccd What We\u2019ll Be Doing<\/h2>\n<h3>\u2705 <strong>Saturday, May 9<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Meet at <strong>Fred Young Park<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Clean areas bordering <strong>residential neighbourhoods and nearby ravines<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Focus on removing visible litter and plastics entering the parkland from surrounding areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u2705 <strong>Sunday, May 10<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Move <strong>deeper into the Black Creek Parkland<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Remove plastic and general litter trapped in grasses, soil, and forested areas<\/li>\n<li>Target long\u2011abandoned waste that continues to stress the ecosystem<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On both days, collected waste will be <strong>sorted on site<\/strong>, separating <strong>recyclable and non\u2011recyclable materials<\/strong> to ensure proper disposal and recovery.<\/p>\n<h2>\ud83e\udde4 What We Provide<\/h2>\n<p>\u2714 Waste collection bags<br \/>\n\u2714 Protective gloves<\/p>\n<p>\u2705 <strong>What to Bring:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comfortable clothing<\/li>\n<li>Closed\u2011toe shoes<\/li>\n<li>Reusable water bottle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\ud83c\udf31 Why This Matters<\/h2>\n<p>Urban forests and ravines like Black Creek play a critical role in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supporting biodiversity<\/li>\n<li>Protecting watersheds<\/li>\n<li>Regulating urban temperatures<\/li>\n<li>Improving community health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Plastic litter blocks plant growth, contaminates soil, harms wildlife, and eventually breaks down into microplastics. Removing it especially before it fragments, is a powerful way to protect these ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>This community cleanup supports our broader ambition:<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Removing 1 tonne (2,204.6 pounds) of plastic waste from Toronto\u2019s urban forests by the end of the year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2705 Our Impact So Far<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>269 lbs of waste removed<\/strong>
