WHY SCHOOL OUTREACH
Environmental degradation and climate change are among the most critical challenges facing our planet today, yet the younger generation whose future is directly at risk often remains unaware or disengaged. This lack of awareness is reflected in their minimal involvement in conversations and actions around sustainability and climate advocacy.
At our nonprofit, we believe empowering today’s youth is the key to building a future where environmental stewardship and sustainable practices are central to every decision.
We must prioritize education and engagement to create a generation of compassionate leaders who understand the urgent need to protect our planet and its resources. By providing young people with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to take action, we can help them become passionate advocates for positive environmental change.
Together, we can shape a future where today’s youth lead the way in preserving and nurturing the world around us. In our afterschool program and training on environmental sustainability and climate change education, we empower young people weekly to become environmental and climate champions in society.

WHY SUSTAINABLE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Our neighborhoods are more than just places where we live. They are the heart of our communities, cities, and townships. They shape our well-being, influence our environment, and define the quality of life we experience daily. However, as modern conveniences grow, so does the challenge of plastic pollution and litter, which threatens the health of our surroundings.
Plastic litter, particularly from single-use items like shopping bags, food wrappers, and bottles, has become a persistent issue in many neighborhoods. Despite the presence of waste management authorities, plastic waste often remains improperly disposed of, accumulating in streets, parks, and community forests. Over time, natural elements such as wind and rain transport these pollutants into green spaces and waterways, harming wildlife and disrupting ecosystems.
Plastic waste doesn’t just make our surroundings unsightly! it significantly affects biodiversity. Parks, forests, and urban gardens, which should serve as vital green lungs for our communities, often bear the brunt of plastic pollution. Wildlife, including birds and small mammals, mistake plastic for food or become entangled, leading to injury or death.
Single-use shopping bags are a major contributor to plastic pollution. Many shoppers purchase a new bag each time they visit a store, while some vendors offer low-quality, non-durable bags that tear easily and are discarded almost immediately. Without sustainable alternatives, these bags end up as litter, further polluting our neighborhoods.

WHY NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS
Nature remains at the heart of solving the triple planetary crisis—biodiversity loss, pollution, and climate change. It offers powerful, accessible, and community-driven solutions that anyone can implement, regardless of location or social status.
We believe that nature-based solutions are not only effective in restoring ecosystems but also provide opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. Our initiative focuses on environmentally friendly income-generating activities, empowering individuals and communities to protect the environment while enhancing their well-being.

WHY ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN
At Environmental Education for a Better Earth Canada, advocacy is at the core of our mission. We believe that raising awareness, influencing policies, and empowering communities, especially young people, are crucial steps in addressing climate change, environmental management, and sustainable development.
Through our advocacy campaigns, we work to ensure that individuals, communities, and policymakers take urgent action to protect our planet. Here’s why our advocacy efforts matter:
Young people are the future leaders of environmental change. However, they are often excluded from important policy discussions. Amplifying youth voices in climate action and environmental policies is our core focus.
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time, yet many people lack access to reliable information about its causes, impacts, and solutions. Educating communities on the science behind climate change and its local effects is adamant.
The way we manage our natural resources determines the health of our environment. Improper waste disposal, deforestation, and pollution threaten biodiversity and ecosystem balance.
Environmental issues affect everyone, but not all communities have the knowledge or resources to take action. Sensitizing individuals on their role in environmental conservation is crucial.
By advocating for climate action, environmental protection, and inclusive policymaking, we aim to build a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable Canada

Sustainability, Environmental and Climate Change Education (SECCE)
The SECCE program is an interactive after-school curriculum that is used to empower young people in schools and communities to take action in addressing climate change and environmental degradation through environmental sustainability and climate change education. It is a program designed to run in schools for a full academic year, practically once a week. The program can be taught by everyone, irrespective of their profession and knowledge of environmental sustainability and climate change. However, they will need to undergo training on how to use the curriculum.
It covers activities on Climate Change and Human Rights, pointing out how climate change is a human rights issue. It also covers lessons on Environmental Sustainability, indicating the benefits of a sustainable lifestyle in environmental management. It also contains lessons on Climate Change activism, action and best practices, and finally, lessons to empower young people to develop their Activism, Communication and decision-making skills.
With the zeal to raise current and future environmental and climate champions, we focus the program on schools, where we train volunteers on how to deliver the program. However, a lesson from the curriculum can be developed to suit the setting and social gathering of young people based on their age group. That is, it can be used during summer camps, class periods, field trips, events, and any gathering to sensitize and advocate on issues related to the environment and climate change.

Plastic Pollution
Single-use shopping bags, may seem convenient, but their impact on the environment is devastating. These bags contribute significantly to plastic pollution, harming ecosystems, wildlife, and even human health. Many of them end up in landfills, waterways, parklands, and oceans, where they take hundreds of years to break down, releasing toxic microplastics into the environment.
Here are some of the major environmental issues caused by single-use shopping bags:
Wildlife Harm – Marine animals and birds often mistake plastic bags for food, leading to fatal consequences.
Pollution & Litter – These bags clog drains, pollute rivers, and create unsightly litter in urban and rural areas.
Carbon Footprint – The production of plastic bags requires fossil fuels, contributing to climate change.
Non-Biodegradable Waste – Once discarded, plastic bags break down into harmful microplastics that contaminate soil and water sources.
How to Reduce the Use of Single-Use Shopping Bags
Switching from disposable bags to reusable alternatives is one of the simplest ways to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment. Here are some effective ways to limit their use:
Carry a Reusable Bag – Always bring a durable, eco-friendly bag when shopping. Keep one in your car, backpack, or purse for convenience.
Say No to Plastic Bags – Opt for paper or biodegradable alternatives when available.
Support Policies & Businesses That Ban Plastic Bags – Advocate for environmental policies that regulate or eliminate single-use plastics.
Choose Sustainable Materials – Use bags made from cotton, jute, or recycled materials that have a lower environmental impact.
Educate Others – Encourage friends, family, and your community to make the switch to reusable bags.
